Doing a theme update does not cause any issues at all with your language files, if your translations are wiped out during an update that simply means you are putting in the language files inside the wrong directory which is being replaced during an update.
Please note that you need to put your language files inside wp-content / languages / themes and wp-content / languages / plugins
This is also mentioned here => https://theme-fusion.com/documentation/avada/translations/storing-translation-files/

Thanks for contacting us, I hope you are having a good day! this is Ammar and I am Customer Ambassador at ThemeFusion.
With our new system on each registration your domain is actually binded with the Purchase code, however if for some reason you want to unbind the domain or in scenarios where you need to test by installing Avada multiple times on the domain, or you want to check different demos after resetting the theme, this may cause such notification to come up, the solution to this is by simply going to your support account and removing the domain from there and click on “Unregister” button on your theme dashboard if the purchase code is still being used, more about this can be read here => https://theme-fusion.com/documentation/avada/support/avada-registration-q-and-a/
